One Room School

On our drive to Hana we passed this small school. There are 10 students in grades kindergarten through third grade. They have classes in the same room. Ten years ago at Stewartsville we offered multi-age classes for grades 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. Multi-age education is the practice of teaching children of different ages together in the same classroom without dividing the students or curriculum into steps labeled by grade designations. I loved teaching in this classroom. We found that students learn better when they have role models they can turn to for asistance, and when they practice their skills by demonostrating to others. How would you like to be in a classroom with all ages?

After I explained more about what a multi-age room class was like, the kids almost unanomously agreed that it sounds like great fun! CD, AG and CB didn't like the idea at all.
A class with only 10 students sounds like a dream to me, regardless of the ages of the students!
